Thanks to the iconic installations for the Barcelona'92 Olympic Games, the capital of Catalonia welcomes two very important pieces of the 2011 FIS Snowboard World Championships on January 15th, 2011: the opening ceremony and the big air competition. It's a return for the big air cracks to a sweet playground as they already competed in Barcelona's in the 2009 World Cup season. However, the event set-up is also a perfect combination of city and mountain competition sites.

The Palau Sant Jordi on Montjuic, which was created by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki about 20 years ago, has a capacity of 17,000 spectators and is situated next to the classic Olympic Stadium of Athletics Lluís Companys, which successfully hosted the big air World Cup in November 2009. The height of the ramp built for the big air contest will be 31 meters.

The Alabaus Zone is Prepared for the Worlds

The Alabaus area will be the center for the competitions in La Molina. In order to accommodate the capacity of people, the complete remodeling of the restaurant-cafeteria has been finished.

Furthermore, the Pedró hill has also been adapted to fit the parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom races, which have been organised in Comella and Estadi the previous years. The goal and idea was to have all competitions held in the same area which would not only ease the site preparations but also the access for spectators.
