Perfect run to forget the 2010 Olympic defeat: Dominique Maltais nailed the best qualifier time

Today's time trials for the second to last snowboard cross of the 2010 LG Snowboard FIS World Cup were dominated by team Canada. While on the ladies' side Dominique Maltais stormed down the course in Valmalenco in 1:11.07 minutes, Robert Fagan nailed 1:04.44 minutes on the men's side of things.

Maltais thus edged of her team mate and Olympic Gold medallist Maelle Ricker to second (1:11.27) and Lindsey Jacobellis from the USA to third (1:11.23). While the top-3 ladies were all within only 16 hundredths, fourth ranked Mellie Francon was already 1.07 seconds behind (1:12.14).

In heavy fog and changing view conditions also the best three men were within less than one second. 2009 World Champion Markus Schairer (AUT) placed second today (1:05.01), only 57 hundredths behind. 2009 WCS Bronze medallist Nick Baumgartner (USA) followed as third (1:05.09), with Drew Neilson from Canada also underlining that he takes advantage of the last races‘ momentum claiming fourth in the qualifiers (1:05.48).
