Canadian top favourites lead women's SBX qualifiers

There has been a lot of pressure on Team Canada to claim some medals at the FIS Snowboard World Champs on home soil.

And so far, the team did well with one Gold and one Silver by Spencer O'Brien and Mark McMorris in the slopestyle last weekend.

However, expectations were and are even higher for next Saturday with Olympic Gold medalist Maelle Ricker and World Cup leader Dominique Maltais entering the snowboard cross medal decisions.

But both main aspirants for the title seem to handle the pressure the right way aiming to bring home the first ever Canadian Gold in this event.

Ricker was the outstanding women on the 1,003 metres long course today, locking in the best time in 1:09.16 minutes in today's women's qualifiers thus being more than one minute faster than her fellow country woman Dominique Maltais (1:10.38) who came in second.

However, the die is not yet cast as Eva Samkova (CZE, 1:10.43) and Nelly Moenne Loccoz (FRA, 1:10.90) did also get along with the 13 feature set-up very well.

The finals will take place on Saturday, Jan 26, at 11 AM EST (5 PM CET).
