The venue inspection for the 10th FIS Snowboard World Championships at Stoneham, Quebec, held last week has brought some significant changes in the time schedule.
While the halfpipe, big air and slopestyle events are all staged on the first weekend (18th-20th January 2013) of the 10th FIS Snowboard World Championships, the snowboard cross finals have now been moved to the second weekend of the event next to the parallel giant slalom and parallel slalom finals.
This has been agreed upon as part of a FIS inspection at the hosting venue in Stoneham, Quebec (CAN) last week involving local organizers and TV rights holders next to FIS officials.
“Six events and thus a total of eleven competitions will be held during a total of ten days. This is a demanding challenge for both, local organizers as well as FIS. While guaranteeing best conditions and facilities for the athletes we now also managed to achieve our goal to reach as many spectators at site and in front of the TV screens world wide. The local OC has done a great job so far,” said FIS Snowboard Race Director Uwe Beier after his return from Canada.
In addition, Beier underlined that several adjustments regarding the World Champ's facilities have also been agreed on during the inspection.
While the halfpipe and the slopestyle course got extended in length, also the last part of the snowboard cross course will feature a new outline of the bottom section.
More than 500 racers from 40 nations are forecasted to participate in the World Championships which will, next to the FIS World Cup races, give riders an opportunity to achieve the required FIS points in order to be eligible for Olympic selection.
The new schedule/adjustments look like this:
- Thu 17: SBS Qualifiers
- Fr 18: SBS Semis/Finals + BA Qualifiers (Start time SBS Finals anticipated to 12.00 local time)
