Some fine race board action will open the New Year for the 2012 LG Snowboard FIS World Cup. On JAN 13, JAUerling will celebrate its World Cup host debut with a parallel slalom. While the time trials are supposed to kick off at 9 AM, the top 16 qualified carving aces will also compete under flood lights as the K.o. Finals will be organized in the early evening starting at 4:15 PM.
The organizers of the first out of two parallel slalom races in Austria scheduled within just a few days (the second will take place in Bad Gastein on JAN 15) are hoping for a spectator run for tickets. A maximum of some 3,000 to 4,000 visitors will have the chance to witness local hero Benjamin Karl, who is looking forward to his very own home turf event, trying to achieve his goal of extending his World Cup lead (3,250) of 720 points over runner-up Roland Fischnaller (ITA, 2,530).
“The JAUerling offers me a race right where I grew up. I would really love to win right in front of all of my fans,” said the 2011 Double World Champion.
On the women's side, Swiss World Cup leader Fraenzi Maegert-Kohli (2,460) travels with a smaller lead to Austria than Karl. Her so far main rival Julia Dujmovits (AUT) breaths just down her neck having collected only 310 points less (2,150) so far.
Those who won't be able to watch the head-to-head duels at site can still be part of the show as ORF will broadcast the finals live from 5:10 PM on. In addition, Eurosport 2 (6:15 PM) will broadcast the finals live-delayed.
