At a press conference held yesterday in the tourist office Bayrischzell, the local organizing committee underlined that everything is ready for the race on Saturday.
In front of several journalists, Head of the local OC and 1st Major of Fischbachau, Josef Lechner (photo), explained that according to the third World Cup hosted at the Waldkopf slope within the last four years the main goal has been achieved.
„We wanted to establish the event in the World Cup calendar. And it worked out.“
In addition, he also stated with a chuckle: „We are on a par with Garmisch, Reith im Winkel and Winterberg“.
FIS Snowboard Race Director Uwe Beier underlined, that the local working group did a great job over the past weeks and months, especially as Sudelfeld also had to fight with bad and quickly changing weather conditions.“
The slope looks good. The base layer has to freeze during the next couple of nights. Then we are good to go!”
Beier also lauded that „something like this is what we are looking for. We need World Cup venues which bring it all together. We need perfect facilities such as a perfectly prepared course and slope, big TV walls and also a perfect co-operation with the media. It's great that we will have a lot of TV time.“
An official bib draw including live music will kick off things on Friday night (JAN 27) at Kurpark Bayrischzell (6 PM).
Qualifiers will start Saturday (JAN 28) at 10 AM. Finals are scheduled for 1:45 PM.
