US snowboarder and 2006 Olympic Silver medalist Lindsey Jacobellis has torn the ACL in her left knee during a training run at the Winter X-Games in Aspen, CO.
Jacobellis, a three time SBX World Champion and the reigning title holder, overshot the last kicker on the snowboard cross course crashing on the final landing.
This major injury equals not only the early end of her season but also interrupts her World Cup winning streak thwarting her chances of becoming the first ever female to win all boarder cross races in a season.
Until last weekend, the 26-years-old rider from Stratton, Vermont, had been unbeaten in all three World Cup races held in Telluride, USA and Veysonnaz (two races), Switzerland, so far thus comfortably leading the World Cup ranking with the maximum of 3,000 points.
“It's always a great goal to win every race. I just keep trying my best. I feel like I'm on a role, my body feels good,” Jacobellis told FISSnowboard.com in an interview after her win at Veysonnaz a few weeks ago.
Her absence leaves the door wide open for a duel of two other riders for the World Cup title.
Dominique Maltais (CAN, 2,200), who won the X-Games SBX last weekend and Alexandra Jekova (BUL, 1,800), who came in second are now the main rivals for the crown.
