Snowy halfpipe qualifiers determined first finalists

Right before the next medal decision will take place in Quebec City tonight with the big air semi finals and finals as part of the official opening of the FIS Snowboard World Championship, the halfpipe riders competed in their qualifiers in the Stoneham resort.

A total of 29 women and 52 men dropped in the pipe facing slight snow fall while trying to impress the judges with their riding.

And ten snowboarders did so.

On the women's side, Shuang Li (CHN), Kaitlyn Farrington (USA) as well as Arielle Gold (USA) and reigning World Champion Holly Crawford (AUS) earned a direct spot in the finals being one of the top-2 qualifiers of each women heat.

On the men's side, three riders from each heat advanced directly to the round of the best 12.

Besides top qualifier Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI) also Christian Haller (SUI), Markus Malin (FIN), defending World Champion Nathan Johnstone, Taku Hiraoka (JPN) and Janne Korpi (FIN) qualified.

Here are the full result lists including the names to compete in tomorrow's semi finals kicking off things at 9:50 AM to determine who will claim the remaining two women and six men spots for the finals.

Tonight, it's big air time!

While the big air semi finals will take place at 5 PM, the best 12 men will battle it out for Gold, Silver and Bronze in downtown Quebec at 7 PM.
