It's been a tough struggle but in the end, the sole FIS Snowboard World Cup stop on German soil had to be cancelled. Until the very end, Organisers as well as the federation were trying to get the financial background needed for this event.
It's been the binding promise which was missing quite a long time. However, TV coverage is key for getting sponsors aboard.
“We did everything we can until the very end,” said Stefan Knirsch, CEO of the Snowboard Verband Deutschland. “And yesterday, we got the TV confirmation.”
But it was too late. The local Organisers didn't see the chance to host a World Cup on the best possible level and thus cancelled the event.
“This is extremely bitter for our athletes who won't get the chance to benefit from home field advantage in their Olympic qualifier period,” said Prof. Michael Hoelz, president of the German Snowboard Federation sadly.
