After years of trying to reach the top of international snowboarding, the 24-year-old clinched a bronze medal in the 2009 FIS Snowboard World Championships in parallel giant slalom. She then celebrated her breakthrough in the 2011/12 World Cup season where she won the title in the Parallel World Cup. Despite undergoing meniscus surgery, Patrizia scored five victories out of eleven races in the past season.
In its interview series “Summer Time for Winter Athletes”, FIS Newsflash interviewed Patrizia.
FIS Newsflash: You have to train hard for staying in shape, also during summer. What is your favourite exercise?
Patrizia: Apart from snowboarding, I love playing beach volleyball or going for a run.
What is the best/worst about summer training?
I just love doing sports, so I would say that the best thing is to share the experience of different sports with other people. It's just so much fun!! The worst thing is to feel sore the day after a really hard training.
If during training, some musician in your IPod could come to life, who would it be and why?
During training I'm mostly listening to rap or hip hop. So Eminem would be my first choice.
If you could go for a swim anywhere in the world this summer, where would it be?
A friend of mine just came back from Australia with a lot of pictures. I was really amazed by the Whitehaven beach on the Withsunday Islands.
What is your vision for the coming winter season?
I haven't really thought about that yet. I would like to have fun on the snow and deliver a good performance.
