VENUE DESCRIPTION

Arosa - the snow guaranteed resort in the heart of Graubünden

The vacation spot in Graubünden offers 70 km of carefully prepared slopes in all degrees of difficulty and 13 modern means of transportation.

Furthermore no through traffic, long hours of sunshine and pure mountain air - all this makes Arosa a paradise for many winter holidaymakers.

And not only for those being on vacations. With a long history in organising major events, Arosa has been part of the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup for several times now.

The Swiss resort left its first marks in January 2002 by hosting a parallel giant slalom and a halfpipe contest. One year later, Arosa organised remarkable World Cup finals.

After another stop in 2004, it was time to step into the spot light of the World in 2007 when - despite very warm weather conditions - the 7th FIS Snowboard World Championships took place on the slopes of the town, which can only be reached by car if driving 365 turns.

However, it were remarkable World Championships including huge crowds at every event, up to 7,000 spectators at the halfpipe finals, a superb battle for Gold in the big air contest with Mathieu Crepel nailing a sw bs 1260 as well as close finishes in the race disciplines.

According to this outstanding competitions being organised, Arosa hit back the World Cup circuit in 2008 and will organise its second World Cup finals in the 2011 season.
