In the 2010 season of the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup, Barcelona celebrated its debut as a World Cup host. The Montjuic, a 173 metres high mountain located in the city's south right at the coast, was the historical venue for the first ever big air World Cup on Spanish soil.

A massive 35metres high ramp was built by Nüssli in the middle of the Olympic Stadium Lluis Companys, which was constructed in 1927 for the International Exposition. For the 1992 Summer Games in the Catalan metropolis, the stadium had been redeveloped by Italy's Vittorio Gregotti.

The whole pitch had been lowered by eleven metres while the structure kept its neo-classical style. This re-renewing of the Olympic Stadium thus enabled some 60,000 seated spectators to watch the Olympics.

In 2009, a third of the capacity was used by Barcelona's snowboard fans when the World Cup stopped by the first time ever in order to stage its winter's second big air competition during the inaugural Barcelona Snowshow.
