VENUE DESCRIPTIONCanada Olympic Park (COP) is one of the most prominent hosts of the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup. Having been the venue of the 1988 Olympic Winter Games, COP has been a training ground for skiing and snowboarding ever since. No wonder that the hill - located only 15 minutes from downtown Calgary - on the western edge of the city attracts almost 300,000 winter sportsmen every year.
Two chair lifts and four magic carpets make 90 acres of skiing terrain accessible - all under the iconic ski jumps of the 1988 Winter Games.
The COP not only provides the only halfpipe facility located within city limits in North America which is also shaped in the Olympic size of 22 foot. The hill also offers a terrain park, slopestyle features and some night time riding.
Relying on the perfect conditions at COP, the first ever World Cup competition at Calgary was held in 1995 hosting the first ever World Cup finals. In 1996 another stop was organised before COP took a break of the World Cup circuit for eleven years.
Since 2007, Calgary was four times part of the last four World Cup calendars - having been responsible for another first. In 2010, the first ever slopestyle finals of the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup were held at COP, too. In 2011, another double event day will feature halfpipe and slopestyle action. |
