Labelling itself as birth-place of alpine skiing the Arlberg region is proud of a long winter sport tradition with the first slopes to be carved back in 1906. Ever since, the reputation among skiers and snowboarders grew.
But it's not only the 84 cable railways and lifts or 280 km of slopes which made the resort so popular. It's also the 180 km of various off-piste possibilities which guarantee fun in the snow. No wonder that Lech took first place in the category "best free ride opportunities" in a survey carried out by snow-online in 2008/2009.
However, Lech, one of the twelve members of "best of the Alps", also brings in some experience in hosting several alpine competitions which made the decision easy to allot two snowboard cross races to the Arlberg region.
In 2011, it's the first time that snowboard contests will be organised in Lech; with the first to be the kick of into the sbx season.
