VENUE DESCRIPTIONMoscow has been a World Cup host for several competitions so far, with the first one in 2005. After a break of one year, the Russian capital has staged a big air contests every year. But in its fourth consecutive year as a World Cup venue, it was time for something brand new!
In March 2010, the race boarders took over center stage close to the State University. On the territory of the Moscow City Palace for Children's and Youth's Creativity, the first ever parallel slalom on a ramp in the history of the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup was held.
The world's biggest ramp, which needs about one month to be built, was the perfect set-up for the riders and their knock-out finals. 60 metres high, 35 metres wide and a slope length of 200 metres are the bare numbers of this steel monsters which is constructed out of 156,000 single elements. The weight is about 1,300 tons plus the approximately 4,000m³ of snow which will cover the ramp.
In 2011, organizers moved the event location next to the Vorobyovy Gory venue, right next to an old skiing jump. An outstanding race event guaranteed that the world's best alpine snowboarders will come back in 2012. |
