Located 150 kilometres away from Milan, Valmalenco belongs to the winter resort of Alta Valtellina which can be divided into three small villages: Chiesa, Caspoggio and Lanzada, all providing an easy access to the lifts nearby.
The transport which brings everyone from the main village Chiesa up to Alpe Palù is called „Snow Eagle", a cable car which needs just a few minutes to travel the approximately 1,000 metres of altitude difference. Being a very pretty and real hidden treasure, Valmalenco is a great place to ski and snowboard. 29 runs spread over a total of 50 kilometres give families, beginners as well as experienced riders enough space to enjoy their time on snow.
And snow is pretty much secured in the area. Due to its geographical position, Valmalenco is covered with snow from December to April; a fact which allowed the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup to stage World Cup competitions at the end of the season.
The first ever contests and race in Valmalenco were held in the 2007/2008 winter, mid of March 2008. At its debut as a World Cup host, the Italian resort organised the season's finals in all disciplines, big air, halfpipe, snowboard cross and parallel.
Ever since, Valmalenco has been part of the world wide tour.
