Marion Kreiner – fast  but not furios

“Think twice about your dreams and wishes as they might come true!” It’s a good quote and definitely fits to Marion Kreiner as her philosophy posted on her team’s website totally goes with her World Cup career.

It all began back in the days when a little girl fell in love with a new sport trying it for the first time in a ski and snowboard school. Thereafter, Marion started to compete in some races organized for kids, was pretty successful and decided over the course of the years to stick with the sport and aim for a professional career.

Aged 20, she celebrated her World Cup debut in a snowboard cross race at Kreischberg but kept concentrating more and more on the parallel disciplines. It was the right decision as the 1981 born earned her first podium finish in 2004 in Bardonecchia, Italy, as second.

In a total of 99 World Cup starts until the 2011 World Championships, the national team member collected ten podium rankings, including one victory in Soelden, Austria, in 2007.

Although this might not look so impressing compared to other race boarders on the circuit, Kreiner managed to bring home the most of this great results within the last four years having made it into the knock out finals almost every competition the Graz resident was entering.

In addition, the girl blessed with a strong will and an excellent carving technique, especially on rough terrain, emerged as an athlete also having the ability to keep her nerves in major events.

At the 2007 Worlds in Arosa, Switzerland, Marion finished fourth in the parallel giant slalom and grabbed silver in the parallel slalom. Two years later in Gangwon, Korea, she killed it in the PGS clinching Gold. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada, the friendly and outgoing graphic designer secured the Bronze medal.

And being in the perfect racing age now, armed with a top physical shape and the experience of 10 years on the highest international tour for race boarders, it’s pretty likely that the SG Snowboard team member is able to add some more titles and victories – as long as she still believes in it.
